All internship Opportunities are for Midshipmen ONLY
National Naval Medical Center (NNMC) (Bethesda, MD):
NNMC, Bethesda agrees to host a total of 18 midshipmen over the three summer cruise blocks. During the month long
rotation at NNMC, Bethesda the interns will have the opportunity to work closely with various Navy doctors and health
care professionals in a variety of specialty areas. As the interns “shadow” physicians they will observe and participate
in hospital rounds, examinations, and surgical procedures. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to talk to
doctors and medical students about medical school admissions and a career in Navy medicine. The internship experience at
NNMC, Bethesda should provide valuable clinical experience that is required for gaining admissions to medical school as
well as help the participating midshipmen make a better, more informed, career choice about entry into the Navy Medical Corps.
Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (Rockville, MD):
Mids can work with military and civilian scientists on projects including drug testing, cause of death in military accidents,
issues faced by medical examiners, and other toxicological research. The dates of this internship are flexible as long as
all mids attend at same time. Up to 4 mids/summer. Housing is possible at the Naval Hospital in Bethesda, MD.
Naval Surface Warfare Center (Indian Head, MD):
Mids can work with military and civilian scientists studying explosives. Housing/food are provided on site. The dates of this
internship are flexible. Some safety/medical clearances must be performed during spring semester. Up to 4 mids/summer.
ACS Summer School in Nuclear Chemistry (San Jose, CA or Stoney Brook, NY):

Applications are due 1 February 2004. USNA will not accept the academic credit from the program but this program is great for mids
interested in the nuclear navy! Up to 2 mids/summer.
High Performance Computing (various locations nationwide):
The projects vary widely but some are appropriate for chemistry majors (especially those interested in computational chemistry research).
Housing/food/transportation details vary from site to site. Dates and number of mids also vary.
Los Alamos National Lab (Los Alamos, NM):
This internship is sponsored by the physics department but allows many chemistry opportunities.
Lawrence Livermore National Lab (Livermore, CA):
