Project Stingray

Project Stingray is a group of Midshipmen at the US Naval Academy dedicated to the development of an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle.

Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV’s), sometimes known as Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUV’s), are robotic submarines. They operate underwater independent of surface support. They must contain all of the necessary equipment to carry out their mission without any contact with the user on the surface.

The focus of Project Stingray is to design an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle to compete in the 2007 AUVSI student AUV competition. This project incorporates mechanical design, buoyancy and hydrodynamics, computer vision, sonar, navigation sensors, computer control, and power management.
