2011 Results

The 2011 competition was held from 12-17 July. There were 28 teams that competed in the competition. The Sinister Penguin qualified for the semi-finals on the 13th with a run through the gate. The teams best semi-final run included passing through the gate, striking one buoy, and going through the center of one 'L'.

The traveling team included, Team Captain ENS Paul Schauppner, ENS Steven Snow, Midn 1/C Chase Hansen, Midn 2/C Robert Bruss and Faculty Advisor Captain Jack Nicholson.

Coming into the finals runs on the last day of the competition the team was working through a number of difficulties involving the DVL. The navigation relies heavily on an accurate DVL and dead reckoning. Problems occurred daily throughout the competition, and while the team worked hard to overcome some very puzzling results, as the final run approached confidence was low.

The team came in seventh overall and seventh out of eight teams that were included in finals competition. The Sinister Penguin passed through the gate, struck the green buoy and passed through the first L during its scored run.
