The USNA AUV Team has been using the Sea-Con Waterproof Penetrators for a number of years. Their performance on the vehicle has been impressive. Sea-Cons are made from rubber molds, and come in a variety of pin numbers allowing us to use them for a variety of sensor connections. They do a great job staying waterproof after suffering the abuse that the vehicle undergoes.
The only problem that the Sea-Cons have ever led to was completely due to user error. One of them leaked, and water made it into the bottom of the box. Luckily the problem was discovered before any catastrophic damage occurred. The leak was caused because the Sea-Con was not tightened properly against the hull of the computer box at the time of launch. Since then extra vigilance by the team has kept this mistake from happening again.
