Boyd A. Waite, Ph.D.
Vice Academic Dean
Boyd Waite was born in Torrance, California, and grew up in Colorado and northern California. He graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry from Brigham Young University in 1978, then earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1982.
He then joined the Chemistry Department faculty at USNA, serving as Department Chair from 1994 to 2002. He is a theoretical physical chemist, and has done research in molecular collision dynamics, mathematical modeling of biological systems, and chemistry education. He has served on numerous Academy-wide committees and task forces, and was elected Chair of Chairs for two years.
He received the USNA Teaching Excellence Award in 1995, and the Meritorious and Superior Civilian Service Awards. He became the Associate Dean for Faculty in 2005 and was appointed to his current position as Vice Academic Dean in January 2012. In this position, he gives oversight with the Academic Dean to all accreditation and assessment matters, serves as co-chair of the Academy Effectiveness Board, and guides all career civilian faculty matters, including the Promotion and Tenure process, among other duties.
He and his wife Jeanene are the parents of seven children, with five grandchildren.
