Previous College and Prep School
The Class of 2009 includes 33% (406) from college
and post-high school preparatory programs which include:
- 229 from Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) in Newport, R.I.
- 16 from Nuclear Power Program (none having previously attended college)
- 80 from the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation Program (66 from private
preparatory schools and 14 from colleges under Foundation sponsorship))
- 81 additional students have completed at least six months of study
at a college or university (76) or a private preparatory school (5).
Military Background
76 midshipmen previously served as enlisted members
of the Navy (62) and Marine Corps (14). This figure includes 27 who
entered directly from Fleet Service (6 USN &
5 USMC), 16 USN from the Nuclear Power School and 49 from NAPS (40 USN & 9 USMC).
Geographical Distribution
Midshipmen were admitted from every state in the nation
as well as Washington DC, Puerto Rico, and Northern Marianas.
The Class of 2009 also includes 11 international students from the
following countries: Guyana (2),
Honduras, Ireland, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Philippines, Singapore,
Taiwan, and Thailand.
