IDSC is currently
offering the following workshops:
Introduction to
Blackboard Academic Suite: Learning System I (for novice users)
The Blackboard Learning System enables
instructors to create and manage course content, use publisher
content, evaluate performance and communicate with students. This workshop focuses on the course building and course communications tools in the Blackboard learning System. After this workshop, you should be able
to:
- Add, modify, manage, and
remove course content
- Communicate with students using discussion boards, virtual classrooms, chatrooms, emails, announcements, etc.
- Customize the
course menu
- Import/Export/Achieve a course
- Manage users and groups

Introduction to
Blackboard Academic Suite: Learning System II (for novice users)
This workshop focuses on the course assessment tools in the Blackboard Learning System, which include test manager, survey manager, pool manager and gradebook. After this workshop, you should be able to:
- Create, deploy, retrieve, grade, and return assignments
- Create, deploy, retrieve, and grade tests
- Create, deploy, and retrieve surveys
- Create different types of quiz/survey questions
- Develop and manage question pools
- Import/export tests and pools
- Use Gradebook to manage student grades

Introduction to Blackboard
Academic Suite: Content System (for novice users)
This workshop focuses on the Blackboard Content System. The Content System provides an
online repository for content storage equivalent to a web-based
virtual hard drive. It also provides a platform for you to share your content with other colleagues. This is especially useful for course coordinators. After
this workshop, you should be able to:
- Add,
Copy, Move, Remove files and folders
- Add
multiple files and folders using Web Folders
- Use
versioning, tracking and commenting features
- Modify
file and folder permissions in order to share content with colleagues
- Manager file and folder
properties
- Create
links from within a course to file/folders on the Content System

Blackboard Academic Suite: Learning and Content Systems (for experienced users)
This three-hour combined Blackboard workshop is geared toward faculty members who are
familiar with the basic features and functionalities of Blackboard and are interested to learn the advanced features and functionalities of Blackboard in order to maximize its potential as a course management system. After
this workshop, you should be able to:
- Use the advanced features which include Adaptive Release, Equation Editor Tool, and Language Packs
- Customize the course menu, course banner and tools availability
- Use discussion Board advanced settings
- Create, deploy, retrieve, grade, and return assignments
- Use Gradebook advanced settings
- Learn best practices to share files/folders with colleagues and students
- Release 7.2 new features overview

Using Technology to Improve Feedback to Student Writing
Projects
As an instructor, you often need
to review student writing projects and provide feedback to them. Instead of
printing out those writing projects and manually adding your feedback, you
can easily use Microsoft Word to provide feedback to students
electronically. Through this hands-on workshop, you will find out how a
technology tool, such as Word, can make the process of providing feedback to
student writing projects more efficient and less laborious. After this
workshop, you should be able to:

Photos with Adobe Photoshop
Adobe
Photoshop allows you to
create and edit high quality digital images/photos. This workshop is geared
toward faculty members who are unfamiliar with Photoshop but want to start
using it for image/photo editing. After this workshop, you should be able
to:

Import images/photos into Photoshop from a scanner or digital camera, or
download them from the Web

Become familiar with the Photoshop work area

photos (crop and resize photos, adjust colors, contrast and brightness,
