Overall Arrangement of Charge Clouds
This column shows the 3-D geometry of the charge clouds surrounding the
central atom. The charge clouds are all of the electron groups
on the central atom that determine the shape including lone pairs of
electrons and bonded atoms. The lone pairs are shown as
pink spheres. The descriptor underneath each structure refers to the idealized
VSEPR shape and is based solely on the total number of charge clouds surrounding
the central atom. The actual shape of the atoms is presented in the
next column (Geometry of the Atoms).
