Teaching with OPNET
EE464: Introduction to Networking Introduction to Networking is a course in fundamentals of data and computer communications. The course emphasizes both the fundamental principles as well as the critical role of performance in driving protocol and network design. It explores the critical technical areas in data communications, wide-area networking, local area networking, and protocol design. This knowledge is directly applicable to your ultimate effectiveness as an officer and warfighter aboard the most complex, technology-intensive, and expensive machines ever built.
Research with OPNET
Modeling the Naval Academy Data Network Enter the existing network components and links into the model and profile various types of users and applications. They will attempt to predict the network capacity, performance and traffic flow using their model. The statistics will then be validated by capturing actual data and validating the model against the predicted results. The opportunity allows for the students to conduct “what if” scenarios for traffic load, network reconfiguration and equipment failures. OPNET modeling software accounts for actual hardware installed and protocols supported in a physically accurate mapping of the entire Naval Academy complex.
