The Honors Program for the English Major is built on the premise that students wishing to excel will do so within the framework of the regular major by expanding their horizons through more rigorous concentration in literary period courses, through special seminars focusing on literature and the fine arts, and through special topics studied in depth. Honors students are required to complete eleven courses within the major, including HE503, Seminar in Arts and Literature, and HE504, Seminar in Advanced Topics. Honors students are required to enroll in HE442, Literary Criticism. The program is designed to make extensive use of library facilities, study abroad, or special seminars with visiting distinguished professors.HE503 Seminar in Arts and Literature (3-0-3)
An interdisciplinary honors seminar concerning a special topic in literature and the arts. HE503 must be taken in conjunction with HE521 (Honors Supplement I).HE504 Seminar in Advanced Topic (3-0-3)
