The current government, a three party coalition, has a prime minister at the head of state. Known as the Taoiseach, this position has influence over all other roles of government. When the government was introduced with the constitution in 1937, the idea of checks and balances was instigated, providing more stable and equal powers. The three branches, the judiciary, the legislature, and the executive branch work together to run the government in Ireland. Further, the legislature, known as Oireachtus, is divided into the upper and lower houses (Seanad Eireann and Dail Eireann, respectively).
The paper also needed to explain in more detail how Sinn Fein was created, and how it currently affects the government of Ireland. Without a greater explanation of this group, the
paper is incomplete. The basic information is there, but is lacking enough background to fully create an understanding about the group.
The paper lacks any real bias, since it is primarily fact oriented. Because of this, the events are recorded accurately, although lacking significant background details. A simple way to find the basic facts of history, current issues, and the government standards introduced is to look up "Ireland, Irish government, Sinn Fein, Fianna Fail, or Ireland Constitution" on the Internet. These web sites are set up to provide information ranging from a full citation of the Constitution to recent ideas presented in Oireachtus. These sites, coupled with the cited works already used, a researcher will be able to better grasp the larger picture.
The paper has introduced the reader to the basic fundamentals of the Irish government, allowing researchers to read a brief overview of the information. To be provided with details beyond a glossed over look, a researcher will be forced to look well beyond this paper. Although well written with suggestions hinting at interesting subject matters, this paper would suite the reader better as an introduction of where he or she would like to move beyond in order to focus on greater details. Including subject matters ranging from factions to religious influence in government, this paper touched on information all Irish researchers should be informed on in order to themselves write a well developed and all-inclusive paper.
