Course Policies

1. Grading. The grade for the course will be determined according to the following percentages:

4 Critical Papers (4-6 pages each) 10% each 40%
1 WWW Project/Research Paper 10%
WWW Project Critique 05%
Mid-Term Exam 10%
Final Exam 20%
Quizzes 15%

Total 100%

I reserve the right to raise or lower the final mark by one letter grade based upon class participation, or lack thereof.

2. Plagiarism. Plagiarism is expressly forbidden under the Honor Concept. All sources must be documented in accordance with the style sheet provided and your handbook (either Simon and Schuster Handbook for Writers (Troyka) or The Holt Handbook (Holt)). Ensure that all sources of original ideas are documented.

3. Attendance. All students shall be in class ready to begin at the appointed time. If you are late, enter quietly and see me after class. If you know you will be absent for a class, please let me know in advance.

4. Classroom policies.

-- Food and drinks are not permitted in class.

-- Because we have a full section and space in the classroom is limited, please leave covers, coats, etc., in the passageway.

-- Sleeping robs you of an outstanding educational opportunity, reflects poorly on your professionalism and above all else is extremely rude. If you are tired, stand.

-- If you have a comment or a question, speak out. You do not need to wait until you are called upon. Simply remember to be courteous to your classmates. I want to run this as much like a seminar as is humanly possible with 25 students.

5. Instructor interviews. All students are required to see me in my office for a brief (5-10 minute) interview by 31 January. Reminder: I have over 70 students this semester, so I cannot fit you all in during the last week. Beat the rush. See me soon.

6. Paper format. See the style sheet provided, as well as: Troyka, Chapters 33, 34, and Appx B; or Holt, Sections 40b, 41j and Appendix A.

7. Email. Periodically, I will send news, information, or homework assignments via Email. Check your mail regularly (at least once in the evening) so you don't miss an assignment.
