The English Major

English majors at the Naval Academy read inspiring and challenging works of literature from ancient Greece, Renaissance England, early America, contemporary Nigeria, and elsewhere. Our courses span the centuries and the globe, bringing students into intimate contact with stimulating ideas, beautiful language, and human experience in all its variety and complexity.

Ten required courses include:

  • HE217 Early Western Literature
  • HE218 Anglo-American Literature
  • HE333 Shakespeare
  • Two 300-level literary period courses
  • One 400-level seminar
  • Four additional courses from department offerings
