Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Armed Forces Leadership Conference
Summary

The Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets Armed Forces Leadership Conference is an annual conference hosted by the Corps of Cadets at College Station, Texas. During the AFLC, cadets from 20-25 schools nationwide participate in various activities on the A&M campus. February 2001 marked the first year that the United States Naval Academy sent delegates to the conference and their participation in student-led panels and discussion groups was invaluable to the success of the conference. These events include presentations by selected speakers, followed by round table discussions. Visiting cadets also have the opportunity to observe the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets pass in review, and attend a formal Military Ball. Past speakers include Gen. T. Michael Moseley, Vice-Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force and Dr. Robert Gates, President of Texas A&M University and former Director of the CIA. This is a great opportunity for cadets and cadre to exchange experiences and ideas, as well as partake in Texas A&M University's culture and traditions.

The theme for this year's conference is "Real-Time Leadership: Facing the True Challenges." Speakers for this year include keynote speaker, Major General Mark Welsh III. General Welsh is currently the Director of Global Power Programs for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition in Washington, D.C. He is responsible for directing, planning and programming 130 Air Force, joint service and international programs, with a $1.5 billion annual budget. General Welsh will be giving a speech on Basic Leadership. Additionally, Mr. Jim Olson, a Senior Lecturer at the George H.W. Bush School of Government and Public Service and the CIA Officer in Residence, will also be in attendance. Mr. Olson will be speaking on different aspects of leadership, including Dedication, Commitment and Ethics, while including specific case studies from the CIA.; Another invited speaker for this conference is Dr. Ben Welch, the Director of the Center for Executive Development in the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University.
