Dr. Baker was born in
Dallas, Tx., and lived in and around the Dallas area until 1993. He
then moved to Detroit Michigan to pursue post graduate studies in
philosophy. Dr. Baker joined
the Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership in 2006.
At the Center
he functions as webmaster, coaches the Ethics Bowl team, and is a
member of the team that produces our interactive ethics simulations,
and interactive electronic ethics and leadership volumes such as
Ethics for the Junior Officer.
Each year he
also teaches a section of introductory philosophy. Before moving to
Maryland he spent 10 years in Michigan, teaching at the University
of Michigan Dearborn, Wayne State University, Oakland University,
Schoolcraft Community College, and Mid-Michigan Community
College.
He earned
his B.A. from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1992 and his
Ph.D. in 1999 from Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan. Aside
from teaching philosophy at the University and College levels, he
also spent 3 years teaching writing and computer skills at the
Methodist Children's Home Society group home in Detroit Michigan.
Before that,
he taught Middle and High School level English, History and
Government at the International Academy of Flint charter school
located in Flint Michigan. He also ran a philosophy club at that
institution.
Although a native Texan, Dr. Baker
considers the Detroit area to be a second home, and is a die hard
Red Wings, Pistons, Tigers and Lions fan. (Of course it goes without
saying that he is a huge Navy fan! Fear the Goat.)
His hobbies include home
brewing (Porters especially), amateur astronomy, and collecting old
time radio (OTR). He is married 25 years to the former Ms. Mary Casassa, of Clio Michigan, and has a son Alex (16).
His blog can be accessed
here.
