RETIRED ACTIVITIES OFFICE
WEDNESDAYS - 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Assists all retired military and their family members in such areas as Survivor Benefits Plan, retired rights and benefits, widow’s outreach and assistance. Office is staffed by retired military volunteers.

TRANSITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
TUESDAY – FRIDAY, 3 - 6 NOVEMBER, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

A four day career and job search workshop for separating and retiring service members seeking civilian employment. Topics include: skills assessment, resume writing, job search methods, interview techniques, as well as a review of Veteran entitlement and much more. Register now if you are within 1 year of separation or 2 years of retirement. Classes fill up months ahead. IMPORTANT!!! You must see your Command Career Counselor and obtain a signed DD 2648 from your command prior to coming to TAP. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN YOU BEING TURNED AWAY FROM TAP.

MEDICAL RECORD REVIEW
THURSDAYS, 12 & 19 NOVEMBER
CALL FOR AN APPOINTMENT, 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM

The AMVET, a Private Non-Profit, Service Organization will be reviewing medical records for retiring or separating service members to identify medical conditions to be considered for follow-on VA services. This review will assist members in obtaining all necessary documents and other additional information prior to their separation from the service. Members should bring their original medical record. DISABILITY TRANSITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (DTAP) BRIEF
MONDAY, 9 NOVEMBER, 1:00PM – 3:00PM

If you are military members with a service connected disability or being considered for a medical separation this workshop is for you! It will provide insight and a wealth of information to assist you or a family member. The Department of Veteran Affairs will review the code of federal regulations which provide benefits to those who have a service connected disability. This includes Chapter 31, Title 38 Vocational Rehabilitation and employment services. Join us and learn more about this medical benefits and entitlements. You could be eligible for a important services and or assistance. Military spouses are also welcomed to participant in this briefing. Guest Speaker: Lynn Addington, VA Counselor. PRE-SEPARATION COUNSELING & TRANSITION PROGRAM TRAINING
FOR COMMAND CAREER COUNSELORS
TUESDAY, 9 NOVEMBER 2009, 1:00pm - 3:15pm

This is an annual training to assist Command Career Counselors in conducting a Pre-Separation Counseling Interview with departing service members. This training will provide participants with the basic knowledge and understanding of:

(a) Purpose and importance of Pre-Separation Counseling
(b) Minimum standards required for coverage of each item on the DDForm 2648
(c) The Law, DOD Guidance, and timelines related to Pre-Separation Counseling

It will cover the required DD Form 2648 - Pre-Separation Counseling Checklist items such as: employment Assistance, Health & Life Insurance, Shipping of Household Goods, Disabled Veteran's Benefits, the development of an Individual Transition Plan and much more. In addition, the Transition Quarterly Report and transition resources and services will be discussed. This training is open to all who are serving as Commend Career Counselors. Certificates of Training will be issued upon completion of the training. Facilitators: NC1 Andrew Jones,CCC and Rose Howard, FFSC Transition Manager. CCC's must register by calling (410) 293-2641.

HOW TO SURVIVE THE HOLIDAYS FINANCIALLY

The holiday season is upon us and it’s time once again to prepare for a season of celebration. But, before you open your wallet to spread that holiday cheer, remember that lack of financial planning during the holiday season can turn even the most cheerful elf into a Grinch. Setting a holiday spending budget is the key to a financially healthy season. Don’t miss out on this workshop – you’ll learn how to reduce financial stress. This 90 minute workshop helps participants plan for holiday spending and make the most effective use of their money. Also, this workshop can be offered at command request.

REDUCE HOLIDAY STRESS WORKSHOP

This workshop is designed to help participants understand the sources of holiday stress, and to become aware of how holiday stress can affect them. The participants will learn to identify their own personal signs and symptoms of holiday stress and to learn effective ways to reduce stress this holiday. Don’t miss out on this workshop!

The process of applying for a job in the Federal Government may seem confusing as different Government Agencies have different requirements. Knowing where to look for openings and how to read them is challenging. This workshop will provide you with tips on how to read and interpret job announcements and best prepare your application. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?
A PERSONAL LISTENING PROFILE SEMINAR
FRIDAY, 13 NOVEMBER, 9:00 AM– 11:00AM

This workshop is for those who want to take their communication skills to the next level, to enhance their performance or relationships with others. Have you ever been told “You’re not listening to me?” What does that mean? Do they mean you are not paying attention? You don’t understand? Or you don’t agree with what they are saying? Listening is an important part of getting along with others – at work, at home, during a job interview, and just about everywhere. Listening is good business. The “cost” of being a poor listener can be frustrating and stressful. Effective listening has many significant payoffs. The goal of this seminar is to:

• understand the importance of effective listening skills,
• recognize barriers that hamper listening effectively
• discover your natural Listening Approach
• identify the five different Listening Approaches and
• practice techniques that will enhance your listening skills and improve communications.

You will take the Personal Listening Profile designed to assess your most natural Listening Approach. It gives you a personalized view of how you listen. CONFLICT RESOLUTION – COMMUNICATION BREAKDOWN

Communication is the most important skill in life. It is the foundation for everything. In our professional and personal lives it is essential in order to succeed. Unfortunately, communication breakdowns occur every day at home and in workplaces all over the world. The fact is that, even though we’ve been communicating all our lives, few of us are experts at it.

To become a better communicator, you need to consciously work at it. The rewards are worth the effort. By improving your communication skills, you’ll increase your effectiveness. You will find that your relationships – at work and at home-improve as well.

At this workshop you’ll learn about the seven destructive communication breakdowns. More importantly, you learn how to avoid these breakdowns with practical guidelines and tips on how to avoid conflicts.

LANGUAGES OF LOVE AND DEVELOPMENTAL STAGES FOR CHILDREN

Sometimes our children know we love them, but they don't always feel loved. Sometimes we discipline our children, but don't seem to get through to them. STAY AT HOME PARENTS GROUP
WEDNESDAY, 18 NOVEMBER, 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

This group is designed to support parents who stay at home with their children by providing an opportunity for them to meet other stay at home parents, as well as to support their children by giving them an opportunity to meet other children, and learn socialization skills. Parents share their knowledge and wisdom about raising children with other parents and join in the fun of playing with their kids and others.

RESUME WRITING

Wondering how to write your resume? Have you written a resume but it isn’t getting the results you want? Our resume writing workshop will help you get started or show you how to improve the one you have written. This class will discuss targeting your resume, selecting the best format for your work experience and creating a cover letter. Participants will complete a draft resume outline. This career assessment workshop will provide insight into the pros and cons of career choices, your work style, your educational or environmental preferences, and your leadership and risk taking styles.
