POSITION DESCRIPTION
In pursuit of academic excellence, the Naval Academy fosters an
educational environment that supports and encourages midshipman learning
and critical thinking through innovative teaching methods that address a
variety of learning styles. We seek outstanding civilian and military
faculty and staff from all segments of society, and provide them with
the necessary support resources to enable midshipmen to achieve academic
success. Our goal is to provide a stimulating environment that instills
a passion for lifelong learning and imbues our midshipmen with the
intellectual curiosity and analytical rigor needed to be in the
forefront of technological advances and global understanding in a
rapidly changing and diverse world.
The Instructor of Practical Applications will develop an intimate
understanding of cyber security and cyber operations courses for which
they will:
A. Provide support by assisting in the development of lab and course
material for use in cyber operations classes
B. Assist with the instruction of midshipmen in classroom and laboratory
activities
C. Maintain and operate the cyber operations facilities including
numerous computer hardware and software facilities
D. Support cyber
operations capital investment plans, annual budget activities and
complete purchase orders for procurement of new equipment.
This will be a 12-month per year appointment during the initial 3-year
contract period. Renewal of this appointment is anticipated and will be
contingent on the performance of the Instructor of Practical Applications
during the contract period plus the needs and emerging plans relating to the
Naval Academy's Cyber curriculum. Salary for this
position will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
It is desired that the Instructor of Practical Applications have
experience or certification with VMWare, including vSphere and vCenter.
VMWare VCAP5- DCD certification would be appropriate. Experience with
APACHE, Python, DNS, DHCP and network configuration is also desirable,
as are skills related to Certified Information Systems Security
Professional (CISSP) and Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH).
Additionally,
the Instructor of Practical Applications should have recent education or
work experience in Cyber Operations, Computer Science, Computer
Engineering or Information Technology, or a related field. Other desired
technical skills include: experience installing and configuring physical
and virtual servers, workstations, networks, operating systems and
applications, which include web-based client/server interactions; wired
and wireless LAN configuration; use of PKI; and network reconnaissance,
attack and defense.
