POSITION DESCRIPTION
In pursuit of academic excellence, the Naval Academy fosters an
educational environment that supports and encourages midshipman learning

variety of learning styles. We seek outstanding civilian and military
faculty and staff from all segments of society, and provide them with
the necessary support resources to enable midshipmen to achieve academic

forefront of technological advances and global understanding in a
rapidly changing and diverse world.
The Weapons and Systems Engineering Department laboratories provide
unique hands-on experiences to Midshipmen in design, fabrication,
integration, test, and operation of control systems engineering
projects.
The Instructor of Practical Applications in Weapons and Systems
Engineering will support these activities by:
A. Assisting in the development of lab and course material for use in
Systems Engineering classes
B. Assisting in the instruction of midshipmen in classroom and
laboratory activities, including assistance with independent research
projects and capstone design projects
C: Operating and maintaining the WSE facilities ,including the numerous
computer hardware and software, fabrication and testing facilities
D. Supporting WSE capital investment plans, annual budget activities and
completing purchase orders for procurement of new equipment.
This will be a 12-month per year appointment during the initial 3-year
contract period. Renewal of this appointment is anticipated and will be
contingent on the performance of the Instructor of Practical
Applications during the contract period as well as the needs and
emerging plans relating to the Naval Academy’s engineering curriculum.
Salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and
qualifications.
MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The Instructor of Practical Applications in Weapons and Systems
Engineering must be a skilled IT specialist (civilian or military) who
can provide systems hardware and software support for new and existing
computer operating systems, new and existing applications software, and
manage Windows XP, Windows 7 and Linux based workstations.
The Instructor of Practical Applications must have experience in the
following:
Managing and maintaining network accounts,
Diagnosing and resolving software/hardware problems,
Troubleshooting individual requests for help in software and/or hardware
setup, and
Keeping inventory and software records and licensing information.
Experience in the development of educational materials for control
systems laboratory and classroom use and experience working directly
with students in a laboratory environment are also highly desirable. It
is desirable that the Instructor of Practical Applications in Weapons
and Systems Engineering have experience working with microprocessor and
common computer engineering and programming tools (Basic, C, Matlab,
Simulink, Solidworks).
