POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Class of 1963 Center for Academic Excellence invites applications for a full-time Writing Specialist. This position has a start date of August 15, 2013 and will be for the academic year (August to June). Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes full benefits.
The Writing Specialist will provide one-on-one assistance to students at any stage of the writing process from brainstorming to the final draft. The Writing Specialist will also assist in the professional development of writing tutors, mentoring undergraduate writing tutors, and leading outreach efforts including collaboration with faculty and staff for cross-disciplinary workshops to encourage a culture of writing in the broader university community. Other responsibilities include assisting the Writing Center Director with administrative duties such as program development and assessment, scheduling, selecting and creating pedagogical materials, and evaluating and promoting the effective use of technology in support of writing instruction. Other duties as assigned by the Writing Center Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify the candidate must have a Master's Degree in rhetoric, composition, literature, curriculum and instruction, or other related humanities field. The candidate must have at least 3 years of tutoring/teaching experience in a writing center or related context in a higher education setting. Also required is experience with composition pedagogies and academic writing genres. The candidate should have experience designing and implementing teaching and learning initiatives or curricula. Also required are demonstrated excellence in communication, leadership, and organizational skills and demonstrated excellence in interpersonal skills for working with diverse students, faculty, and staff. Preferred candidates would have experience with technology-enhanced pedagogies. All candidates should be focused on promoting student success and building innovative tutoring programs. U.
