Tenure-track Assistant
Professorship in Operations Research
Department of Mathematics
Applications are invited for
an anticipated tenure-track position (subject to approval and funding) in
operations research at the assistant professor level to start in August
2010. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Operations Research or a similar
discipline. A Ph.D. in a mathematical science with significant
operations research experience may also be considered. Candidates must
demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and should exhibit
potential to continue an active scholarly program. Promotion and
tenure evaluations follow the American Association of University Professors
guidelines.
The USNA Mathematics
Department currently has four permanent faculty members and several military
instructors whose primary interests are in Operations Research in addition
to two statisticians on the permanent faculty. The department also
offers several courses in Operations Research and the successful candidate
will help further develop USNA's Operations Research curriculum, including
developing courses in their own areas of expertise. Candidates will
also teach core mathematics courses such as calculus.
The Mathematics Department
also jointly administers a quantitative economics major with the Economics
Department. This program offers unique opportunities for both teaching
and research collaboration.
The Mathematics Department
at USNA consists of 42 civilians with Ph.D.'s and 18 Military Officers
typically with M.S.'s. Full summer research support is usually
available for the first three years of new appointments. In addition,
USNA continues to provide partial research support in the form of matching
funads for research collaborations with Department of Defense, government,
and industry laboratories. Funding is also available to aid in the
development of research with undergraduates. Faculty members receive
full federal government service benefits. Additional information about

includes a statement of professional goals (including both a teaching
statement and a research statement), a C.V., three letters of reference (at
least one of which is devoted to the applicant's experience and promise as a
teacher), and copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts.
