ATMOSPHERIC SCIENTIST

The Oceanography Department of the U.S. Naval Academy has a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level to start in December 2008. Duties consist primarily of teaching undergraduate courses in meteorology or climate science; research activity is required.

The U.S. Naval Academy is a four-year accredited undergraduate institution, offering a Bachelor of Science degree in a variety of academic majors including oceanography. USNA's Oceanography program has been designated Academic Affiliate status by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research. USNA has approximately 4000 students, of which over 100 are oceanography majors. The Oceanography faculty numbers twelve, with four tenure-track civilians. Professors are hired on a 10-month basis, with summers available for full-time research.. Research facilities include computerized classrooms for meteorology and oceanography, a 108-foot dedicated oceanographic research vessel with open access to Chesapeake Bay and five state-of-the-art wet and dry laboratories for oceanography and meteorology.

At the time of the appointment, the successful candidate must possess a PhD degree in the atmospheric sciences or a related subject. Professional/teaching experience and a strong background in numerical modeling and/or air-sea interaction are highly desirable. Rank and salary are commensurate with candidates' background.
