Since 1986, Latter-Day Saint Midshipmen have been able to serve two-year missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Resigning from the academy typically after their second year, they have gone on to serve their respective missions (domestic or abroad) before reapplying and being readmitted to continue their military training and studies at the United States Naval Academy.
