A Surface Warfare Officer, LT Brian Rutledge graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics.
His first assignment was to USS STOUT (DDG 55) where he served as the ship's Ordnance Officer, Electrical Officer, and Engineering Training Officer. LT Rutledge deployed twice with STOUT, the first being a 5th FLEET AEGIS deployment and the second being a 6th FLEET Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) deployment. In November 2009, he transferred to USS CARTER HALL (LSD 50), where he served as the Combat Information Center Officer (CICO/AOPS). He deployed with CARTER HALL to the 5th FLEET and to Haiti in support of humanitarian relief operations, and then transferred to the United States Naval Academy in June 2011. LT Rutledge currently teaches NL110 Leadership and NL360 Culture, Military Leadership and Global Human Terrain.
LT Rutledge's personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards), National Defense Service Medal (1 awards), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (1 award), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal (1 award), Humanitarian Service Medal (1 award), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (3 awards).
