Capt Mosi D. Smith was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, attended the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, Rhode Island, and earned his commission in the U.S. Marine Corps upon graduating from the United States Naval Academy with the Class of 2005.
Capt Smith graduated from the Logistics Officers Course in Camp Johnson, North Carolina in April of 2006 and executed orders to Truck Company, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division in Camp Pendleton, California. There he served as a platoon commander for 3rd Truck Platoon and deployed with 3d Battalion, 4th Marines from 2006-2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 04-06 and with 2d Battalion, 8th Marines from 2007-2008 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08. Upon reorganization of Truck Company, Capt Smith served as the Executive Officer for Truck Company "Alpha" from 2008-2009.
Capt Smith transferred to the United States Naval Academy in May 2009 and served one year as a leadership instructor in the Leadership, Ethics & Law Department and one year as the 19th Company Officer. He has a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from the United States Naval Academy and a Masters of Professional Studies in Leadership, Education & Development from the University of Maryland, College Park.
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
