The USNA's Delta Eta Chapter of Phi Sigma Iota, the international foreign language honor society, was established in 1988. Criteria for membership include the pursuit of a curriculum with an emphasis on one or more foreign languages and a CQPR of at least 3.0. Eligible midshipmen are automatically invited to join. Each spring, initiates are honored with a banquet and a special guest speaker. A picture of the 2001 members appears in the Phi Sigma Iota chapter news.
For academic year 2004-05, the Delta Eta chapter president is Midn. 1/c Lindsey Chittenden and the vice president is Midn. 1/c Benita Williams. USNA faculty advisors are professors Robert Stone and Todd Garth.
