William Chauvenet 1845-1851 Professor of Mathematics
George Jones 1851-1853 Also served as Chaplain.
William Chauvenet 1853-1859  
John H. C. Coffin 1859-1865
LCDR John S. Barnes 1865-1868
William H. Wilcox 1868-1870
Thomas Karney 1872-1885 First to hold title of "Librarian."  The men who preceded him had charge of the Library, but did not hold the title of Librarian.
Arthur Newton Brown 1886-1895 Although he also held an appointment as Assistant Professor of English, Brown was the first person with experience in library administration to manage the Library.
Marshal Oliver 1895-1899 Oliver's complaints about Brown to the Superintendent had Brown removed as Librarian.  However, after Oliver's death in 1899, Brown again became the Librarian.
Arthur Newton Brown 1899-1922 Librarian during the construction and move to Mahan Hall.
Richard Johnson Duval 1924-1938  Served as Acting Librarian, 1922-1924.
Charles W. Mixer 1939-1945  
Louis M. Bolander 1946-1956
Vernon D. Tate 1956-1966
Richard A. Evans 1967-1991 Librarian during the construction of Nimitz Library.  Also oversaw the switch from a card catalog to a computerized catalog.
Richard H. Werking 1991-
