BOOK COLLECTION WITHDRAWALS
June 26, 2000
MEMORANDUM
FROM: Chair, Library Subcommittee
Librarian
TO: All Faculty
SUBJ: Book Collection Withdrawals
As they use the Library, faculty will likely be encountering slips
in books asking for opinions about whether a particular volume
should be retained.
As part of their ongoing efforts to keep the Library's collections
current and relevant for teaching and scholarship, the reference-bibliographers
will continue to be engaged in evaluating volumes and identifying
candidates for possible withdrawal. In the process, they will be
seeking faculty feedback about the book and journal volumes they
identify. Withdrawals from the collection occur within the framework
of established policies and procedures; our Library Subcommittee
is currently reviewing copies of the recently revised procedures.
The reference-bibliographers have begun a review of the general
book collection, as they recently did with identifying bound periodicals
no longer needed. They are developing a systematic plan with specific
call number areas targeted at various times.
Please direct any questions to the reference-bibliographer who
works with your department.
Thank you for your interest and assistance.
