- Marine Technology Abstracts
Index (no full-text), PASSWORD REQUIRED. Contact 3.2420 or inquire at the reference desk.
Index to over 82,000 technical articles, reports, books, conference and transaction papers and other material on all aspects of maritime technology. Database is a collaboration between the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology and British Maritime Technology.
- Oceanic Abstracts
Index (no full-text) to journal articles and book chapters related to ocean engineering.
- ASFA (Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts)
Index (no full-text) to literature in the science and technology of marine, freshwater, and brackish-water environments from 1978 to the present. (Should the above link not work for any reason try the mirror server.)
- Engineering Village
Index (no full-text) to engineering literature. Excellent resource for most engineering topics.
- INSPEC
Index (no full-text) to engineering literature, more international in scope. Subject coverage includes physics, electrical engineering, electronics, computer science, robotics, control engineering and information technology. Use "Find Full-Text" or the Electronic Journals Page to find the article.
- Scitopia
Index, some full-text available. Search engine created by fifteen science and technology societies to index the scholarly content in their websites and that of some U.S. Government sites.
- Web of Science (Science Citation Index)
Index to high-quality scientific literature from 1980 to present. This database is very helpful for finding papers that are heavily cited by other scientists.
- Applied Science and Technology Full Text
Mostly full-text, access to almost 500 trade and industrial publications, journals issued by professional and technical societies, and specialized subject periodicals, as well as special issues such as buyers' guides, directories, and conference proceedings.
- General Science Full Text
Mostly full-text, access to almost 200 popular science magazines, professional journals, and The New York Times Science Section.

E-Journals
The Nimitz Library subscribes to the following full-text sources.
- IEEE Xplore
Full-text. Articles, conference proceedings. Along with extensive electrical engineering coverage, IEEE Xplore also has conferences on ocean research.
- Torpedo Ultra
Full-text database maintained by the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). It includes content from the Elsevier (one of the world's leading publishers for scientific and engineering information), Institute of Physics, NRL Formal and Memorandum Reports, NRL-authored journal articles and conference papers, and NRL Press Releases.
- For access to other full-text journals use our E-Journals page or use the “Periodical Titles” search option in the Library Catalog.
- It is always possible that the Nimitz Library owns a journal you are looking for, but the title is not available in electronic form. For this reason you should always search the Library Catalog to check on availability of materials.

- Business Source Premier
Provides full-text of nearly 2,300 journals. Click on Company Profiles to obtain Datamonitor reports about individual companies.
- Lexis Nexis
Enter Lexis Nexis, click on Business. Lexis Nexis allows you to search within the following sections: Business News, Industry & Market Reports, Company Financial Reports, Company Profiles, and other areas.
- Janes Online
Defense Industry news, contract announcements, and other info.
- Military & Government Collection (EBSCO)
Access many of the important military and government journals; includes specific service journals and journals devoted to a specific military community. Many items are full-text, for other items use the "Find Full-Text" button.
- ProQuest Military Collection
After running your search, click on the Trade Publications tab for trade publications. If there is no Trade Publications tab, you may want to slightly modify your search for more results.

Library Catalog
- The Library Catalog is the primary tool for determining what is available in the Nimitz Library’s collections. It can be used to search for books, audiovisual materials, journal titles and WWW-based resources. To recommend new titles, please contact Andy Wheeler, 410.293.6944, awheeler@usna.edu.
- Norman Friedman

Norman Friedman is a prominent and respected author on topics such as weapons, ship design, submarines, etc. Many of his books are available for check out, and others are in our Reference area. Some copies are also in Special Collections. Books in Nimitz Library by Norman Friedman. Visit the reference desk for more assistance.

Technical Reports, Government Documents
- DTIC STINET
Index and some full-text access to technical reports from all branches of the U. S. military. Also contains important NASA materials and has key literature about new military aircraft. Full-text is usually available for reports published from 1999 to present.
- Government Documents Index (MarciveWeb DOCS)
Catalog of U. S. Government Publications July 1976-Present.
- NTIS (National Technical Information Service Database)
Index to technical reports from government, corporate and university research agencies (1964-Present, weekly updates. Should the above link not work for any reason try the mirror server).
- NASA Technical Reports Server
Index (no full-text) of items published by NASA. Also an index to other aeronautics and astronautics literature. To actually get the item, search the Nimitz library catalog for the report listed in the database. If the item is in our catalog, you can obtain it from the Nimitz library. If the item is not in the Nimitz catalog, Midshipmen and faculty can request it using Interlibrary Loan (please login to Interlibrary Loan and choose the "Request a Technical Report" option).
- Military Specifications and Standards Index
The Department of Defense often contracts for hardware and software. As such DOD procurement staff and engineers developed documents that state the specifications or standards that materials must meet to be used in DOD systems. These full-text items often provide useful insights into how items are made. Some of these items have been adopted to become industry standards; wide adoption means commercial acceptance of DOD engineering practices and principles.
- American Bureau of Shipping.
This organization publishes many useful items regarding rules for building and classing ocean vessels.

- U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
The USPTO database offers full-text access to patents since 1976 and full-page images of patents since 1790. AlternaTIFF image viewing software is necessary to view full-page images.
- European Patent Organization
This site offers free full-text access to patents from several European countries, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and the United States. Abstracts and bibliographic data are available for patents from several other countries around the world, including China and Japan.

The Hyperbaric Medicine community in the repository includes items specifically related to dive medicine, including contributions from the US Navy Experimental Diving Unit.
