DATABASES AND INDEXES
- Academic Search Premier --
Designed specifically for academic institutions, this
collection offers information in the sciences, social sciences,
and humanities, including newspapers, magazines, and scholarly journals. It contains full text for many of the publications. A good starting
point for research, but other subject specific resources should
be also consulted.
- CQ Electronic Library - Search all our CQ (Congressional Quarterly) subscriptions from a single search box or choose an individual title:
- CQ Global Researcher – CQ Global Researcher offers researchers international perspectives on the most vital world issues with original, single-topic reports.
- CQ Politics in America -- Contains profiles of the members of Congress, and information on states and districts, committees, and campaign finance.
- CQ Researcher -- Single-themed
reports offer in-depth, non-biased coverage of political and
social issues. Reports include background and chronology, assessment
of current situation, tables and maps, pro/con statements from
highly qualified representatives of opposing positions, and list
of sources for further reading.
- CQ Supreme Court Collection --
Contains all Supreme Court decisions full-text, biographies of
Supreme Court justices, and the U. S. Constitution. The system
also has useful "Cases in Context" for interesting public
policy topics such as Capital Punishment, Federalism and Abortion.
- CQ Weekly -- Non-partisan
source for comprehensive coverage of the U.S. Congress, status
of bills, votes and amendments, floor and committee activity,
background maneuvering, debates and roll-call votes.
- GalleryWatch -- This is an index to the research materials produced by the Congressional Research Service (CRS). These materials cover a variety of topics that are used by Congress to gain insight into proposed legislation.
- iPOLL (Roper Center) -- The Roper Center at the University of Connecticut is the largest archive of public opinion data. To access the database, click on the iPOLL icon. The user is then presented with a brief registration page and will need to agree to user terms - all this happens the first time a user logs in to iPOLL. Subsequently, the user only needs to enter his or her email address.
- JSTOR -- Full-text archive of scholarly journals.
- LexisNexis Academic --
Provides full-text access to a wide range of news, business,
legal, and reference information.
- LexisNexis Congressional --
Provides full-text access to US legislative information from
the Congressional Information Service, Inc.
- National Newspapers --
Provides recent full-text access to 5 major newspapers, which may
be searched simultaneously or individually:
- PressDisplay -- Read newspapers from around the world the day they are published.
- Project Muse -
Full-text access to journals published by various
associations and university presses. These titles cover a variety of
subjects but mostly related to literature, political science, history
and culture.
