This is a selective list of online resources especially useful
for researching literary topics. Go to the Nimitz Library Home

- MLA
International Bibliography --
This database, produced by the Modern Language Association, consists
of bibliographic records pertaining to literature, language,
linguistics, and folklore, and includes coverage from 1963 to
the present.
- Literature Online (LION) -- A fully searchable library of more than 350,000 works of English and American poetry, drama and prose, 154 full-text literature journals, and other key criticism and reference resources. Also available via LION is the ABELL online resource - The Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature (ABELL) contains over 850,000 records, covering monographs, periodical articles, critical editions of literary works, book reviews and collections of essays published anywhere in the world from 1920 onwards.

Provides access to 500 of the best-known scholarly journals and
numerous lesser-known but important specialized magazines in
such fields as archaeology, art, classical studies, communications,
film, folklore, gender studies, history, literature, and philosophy.
Coverage for indexing begins in 1984; abstracting begins in 1994,
and full text of selected titles in 1995.

Muse --
Full-text access to more than 100 journals published by various
associations and university presses. These titles cover a variety of
subjects but mostly related to literature, political science, history
and culture.
- JSTOR --
Full-text archive of scholarly journals. Select More
Information for tips in using JSTOR.
- Oxford
English Dictionary --
Provides the history and development of English words during
the last 800 years with illustrative quotations from the works
of thousands of authors.
- Dictionary
of Old English / Old English Corpus -- Produced by
the University of Toronto, the Dictionary of Old English
is based on records written in English between 600 and 1150
A.D.
- Middle
English Compendium--
Produced by the University of Michigan, the Compendium provides
access to the Middle English Dictionary and a HyperBibliography
of Middle English prose and verse.
- Britannica
Online --
An online version of the Encyclopaedia Britannica, providing
background information.
- LexisNexis
Academic --
Provides full-text access to a wide range of news, business,
legal, and reference information.
- Academic
Search Premier --
Designed specifically for academic institutions, this
scholarly collection offers information in the sciences,
social sciences, and humanities. It contains full text for
more than 4,600 publications, including over 3,500 peer-reviewed
publications. A good starting point for research, but other
subject specific resources should be also consulted.
- WorldCat --
WorldCat is a worldwide union catalog created and maintained
collectively by more than 9,000 member institutions. With millions
of online records built from the bibliographic and ownership
information of contributing libraries, it is the largest and
most comprehensive database of its kind. The WorldCat databsae
includes more than 50 millin records for books, journals, videos,
electronic reources and other materials held in library collections
around the world. Nimitz Library patrons may wish to use WorldCat
to identify materials available via InterLibrary Loan.

Provides access to dozens of indexes and databases in a variety

On The Web (Research
Libraries Group) -- An online reference service from the Research
Libraries Group comprised of the RLIN Bibliographic File (collections
of major research and academic libraries, archives and museums), ESTC (English
Short Title Catalogue) and SCIPIO (Art and Rare Books
Sales Catalogs). Password required. USNA users may contact the
Reference Desk at x32420.
- ERIC (Educational
Resources Information Center) -- ERIC is a national information
system designed to provide users with ready access to education-related
literature. ERIC provides access to the broad range of educational
resources included in Current Index to Journals in Education and Resources
in Education.
- Books In Print --
Over 1.9 million titles retrievable by title, author, subject,
publisher, etc.
- netLibrary --
Collection of electronic books covering a wide range of scholarly
topics.
