-- Frequently Used Databases in Oceanography and Meteorology --

AMS (American Meteorological Society) Journals Search -- This database enables searching across the journals of the AMS and linking to the full-text of those journals.

ASFA (Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts) -- Provides access to literature in the science and technology of marine, freshwater, and brackish-water environments from 1978 to the present.

Applied Science Full Text -- Provides access to almost 500 trade and industrial publications, journals issued by professional and technical societies, and specialized subject periodicals, as well as special issues such as buyers' guides, directories, and conference proceedings.  Indexing begins in 1983 and full text for selected titles in 1997.

General Science Full Text -- Provides access to over 250 popular magazines and scholarly journals, with full text for selected titles beginning in 1995. Now part of OMNIFILE FULL TEXT MEGAFULTEXT MEGA

GeoRef -- Produced by the American Geological Institute, this geoscience database contains over 1.9 million records of North America since 1785, and other areas of the world since 1933.

Meteorological and Geoastrophysical Abstracts -- Provides access to literature on meteorology, climatology, atmospheric chemistry and physics, physical oceanography, hydrology, glaciology, and related environmental sciences.

Oceanic Abstracts -- Provides access to technical literature on marine-related topics.

Web of Science -- Provides access to Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, and Arts and Humanities Citation Index.  These databases offer access to articles' cited references, including articles, government reports, and patents and, in many cases, link to the full-text of these references.  Coverage from 1985 to present.

Academic Search Premier -- Designed for academic institutions, this database provides access to popular magazines and scholarly journals in a variety of subject areas.  It contains full text for more than 4,600 publications, including over 3,500 peer-reviewed publications.

Aerospace & High Technology Database -- Provides references to basic and applied research in aeronautics, astronautics and space sciences. The database was created by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and includes references to journal articles, conference papers and government reports (mostly NASA materials).

Engineering Village -- Online index to the engineering literature, including journals, technical reports, and conferences.

Government Documents Index (MarciveWeb DOCS) -- Catalog of U. S. Government Publications July 1976-Present.

IEEE Xplore -- This product provides full-text access back to 1988 of all Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) journals, conference proceedings, and current standards as well as all Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) journals and conference proceedings. Selected content goes back to 1950.

INSPEC -- Created by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), INSPEC provides access to the world's scientific and technical literature in the areas of physics, electrical engineering, electronics, computing, control engineering, and more.

JSTOR -- Primarily a full-text archive of scholarly journals including a life sciences collection. Now includes full-text access to current content of some of the journals, in addition to the archival content.

ScienceDirect -- Offers full-text articles from over 2,000 peer-reviewed journals as well as a growing range of authoritative books, including reference works, handbooks and book series. Full-text is limited to articles and books subscribed to or owned by Nimitz Library.

SciFinder Scholar-Web access -- An electronic version of Chemical Abstracts (1907 to present), SciFinder Scholar provides access to the CAS databases containing literature from many scientific disciplines including chemistry, biomedical sciences, engineering, materials science, agriculture, and more.  USNA has access for two simultaneous users only.  Use of this product is limited to Midshipmen, faculty and staff engaged in teaching and learning activities. ** Registration is required before first use.  Use the link immediately below to register. **

SciFinder Scholar - New User Registration -- Before using SciFinder Scholar, you must first create your SciFinder username and password. You must use your USNA e-mail account (@usna.edu). After submitting the form, CAS will send an e-mail message with instructions for completing the registration process. This resource is available only to Midshipmen, Faculty, and Staff of the U.S. Naval Academy.

Scitopia -- A free search portal to the digital libraries of leading science and technology societies.  Search over 3 million documents, plus patents and government data from fifteen societies spanning 150 years of sci-tech scholarship

Torpedo Ultra -- An information resource at the Naval Research Lab (NRL), Torpedo is a source for full-text access to journal articles published by Elsevier (almost 800 journals are covered) as well as full-text access to more than 1 million technical reports published by NRL. Torpedo includes a search engine to search topics in the articles and reports that are part of this system.
