FREQUENTLY USED DATABASES IN PHYSICS AND ASTRONOMY:

ADS (NASA Astrophysics Data System) -- A free search system for Astrophysics, Planetary Sciences, and Solar Physics Abstracts. 

Applied Science Full Text -- Provides access to almost 500 trade and industrial publications, journals issued by professional and technical societies, and specialized subject periodicals, as well as special issues such as buyers' guides, directories, and conference proceedings. Indexing begins in 1983, abstracting in 1993, and full text for selected titles in 1997.

General Science Full Text -- Provides access to over 250 popular magazines and scholarly journals, with full text for selected titles beginning in 1995. Now part of OMNIFILE FULL TEXT MEGA

IEEE Xplore -- This product provides full-text access back to 1988 of all Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) journals, conference proceedings, and current standards as well as all Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) journals and conference proceedings. Selected content goes back to 1950.

INSPEC -- Produced by the IEE (Institution of Electrical Engineers), Inspec provides access to the world's scientific and technical literature in the areas of physics, electrical engineering, electronics, computing, control engineering, and more.

OpticsInfoBase-- A cutting-edge repository that contains OSA Publishing's content, including 15 flagship, partnered and co-published peer-reviewed journals. With more than 200,000 articles including papers from over 360 conferences, Optics InfoBase is the largest peer-reviewed collection of optics and photonics.

Torpedo Ultra -- This link is to an information resource at the Naval Research Lab (NRL). Torpedo is a source for full-text access to journal articles published by Elsevier (almost 800 journals are covered) as well as full-text access to more than 1 million technical reports published by NRL. Torpedo includes a search engine to search topics in the articles and reports that are part of this system.

ScienceDirect-- Offers full-text articles from over 2,000 peer-reviewed journals as well as a growing range of authoritative books, including reference works, handbooks and book series. Full-text is limited to articles and books subscribed to or owned by Nimitz Library.

Web of Science -- Provides Web access via the Naval Research Lab to the Science Citation Index Expanded database, a collection of high quality research information from leading professional science journals from 1985 to present. The database offers access to articles' cited references, including articles, government reports, and patents. (Science Citation Index on Index Shelves 1961-1997.)

ACM Digital Library -- Provides citations, abstracts, reviews and the full text of articles published in ACM periodicals and proceedings from 1985-present. Full text of conference proceedings are now available as well.

ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) -- ERIC is a national information system designed to provide users with ready access to education-related literature. ERIC provides access to the broad range of educational resources included in Current Index to Journals in Education and Resources in Education.

Engineering Village (formerly EI Compendex) -- Online index to the engineering literature, including journals, technical reports, and conferences.

JSTOR -- Full-text archive of scholarly journals including a general science collection.

MathSciNet -- Access to Mathematical Reviews and Current Mathematical Publications from 1940 to the present.

Meteorological and Geoastrophysical Abstracts -- Provides access to literature on meteorology, climatology, atmospheric chemistry and physics, physical oceanography, hydrology, glaciology, and related environmental sciences.

SciFinder Scholar-Web access -- An electronic version of Chemical Abstracts (1907 to present), SciFinder Scholar provides access to the CAS databases containing literature from many scientific disciplines including chemistry, biomedical sciences, engineering, materials science, agriculture, and more.  USNA has access for two simultaneous users only.  Use of this product is limited to Midshipmen, faculty and staff engaged in teaching and learning activities.  ** Registration is required before first use.  Use the link immediately below to register. **
