to the Occoquan Challenge, Fairfax, VA Sandy Run Regional ParkTake
495 South around Washington DC and get back onto 95 South From I-95, take exit 163 (Lorton Road, Route 642) west. After about 1.6 miles (at the top of a hill), bear right on Furnace Road and follow it until it meets Route 123 (Ox Road). Turn right on Ox Road and travel 1.2 miles to Hampton Road where you will turn left. Go about 1/2 mile on Hampton road and turn left on Van Thompson Road (you will see power lines overhead, just in front of you). After
about 1/4 mile Van Thompson bears sharply to the left at a well weathered
barn and continues down a hill to the entrance to Sandy Run Park. Once
there parking officials will direct you to a parking spot.
Directions
to the Navy Day Regatta and the Head of the Schuylkill From
New York/New England:
From southbound New Jersey Turnpike (NJTP) take exit 6 to Pennsylvania
Turnpike (I-276 West). Follow PA Turnpike to exit 25A (Mid County). Take
this exit (keeping to the left) and follow signs to I-476 South (Chester).
Travelers from Scranton: pick up I-476 at same exit from Route 9 South (PA
Turnpike Northeast Extension.) Directions to the Head of the Charles, Boston, MAFrom the South95
North to New Haven 91
North to Hartford 84
North/East into Massachusetts to the Mass. Turnpike 90
East (Mass. Pike) into Boston Continue
on 90 East after Toll Booth. As
you approach the city, take the Cambridge exit on your left. After
paying another toll, stay to your right and take the first exit. Stay
straight, go over bridge and make your first right along the water
(Charles River). Eventually
you will see a big field of boat trailers, which is the main regatta area. The
Navy rowers will launch at the BU Boathouse, continue straight onto
overpass and the boathouse is the on the right just after the overpass.
Make your first left and find parking. Directions
to the Princeton Chase and the Belly Carnegie
From North or SouthTake
the NJ Turnpike to exit 9, New Brunswick. Take
Route 1 South for approx. 15 miles. As
you enter Princeton area, take a right onto Washington Road. The
Washington Rd. intersection has two gas stations on the right side. Follow
Washington Rd, Princeton Boathouse will be on the left after crossing the
bridge. You
may have to park in the field across the road from the boathouse. Best viewing area for the race is the Harrison Street Bridge, which is the second bridge away from the Princeton boathouse. You will see the Harrison Street Bridge on your right as you cross the Washington Road Bridge.
