Navy Opens Season with Win over Tigers

After a long winter of training, Navy's varsity opens with a win over Princeton on Lake Carnegie. The Midshipmen came away with a 4.5-second victory over the Tigers as Navy won three out of four races.

The second varsity had a great race, beating Princeton for the first time in a duel race during Coach Friedrich's tenure at the Naval Academy.

The Plebe race was a great one to watch as it matched the top two programs from the Belly of the Carnegie in the Fall. Navy and Princeton traded seats for the first 1000 meters until the Mids opened up a boat-length lead in the 3rd 500. Navy extended their lead in the last quarter of the race for a six-second win.

The third varsity was the only loss of the day with Princeton jumping out to a quick lead right off the start. Navy fought hard to gain ground on the Tigers but could not make up the boat-length deficit.

Our 2nd plebe boat raced in the heavyweight race. The Navy lightweight and heavyweight boats pulled away from the Princeton boat quickly for a strong race for both crews.
