Sinks Rutgers and Columbia
PELHAM, N.Y. --
Navy's lightweight crew team swept four races for the second-straight
week, defeating Rutgers and Columbia Saturday at the Orchard Beach
Lagoon in Pelham, N.Y.
Navy saw its varsity boat improve to 4-0 on the season by recording a
time of 5:57.36 to post wins over Rutgers by 4.5 seconds and Columbia by
seven seconds. Navy's second varsity boat also remained undefeated on
the year, completing the course in a time of 6:07.18 and picking up a
5.6-second win over Rutgers and a 25-second victory over Columbia.
"The varsity race was much closer than the final time difference
indicates," said Navy head coach Rob Friedrich.
The Mids also won the first freshman race by seven seconds and the
second freshman race by eight seconds.
"The first freshman victory may have been the most impressive one
of the day," said Friedrich. "They made a great move in the
second half of the race to defeat a pair of very good teams."
Navy will take to the water next Saturday when the Mids race against
Georgetown on the Potomac River in Washington, D.C.
