Navy Loses Johnson Cup to Yale
Although Navy's Varsity boat lost a tough race to Yale, the Midshipmen went on to win the other five races contested against the Bulldogs. Yale's Varsity claimed a 2.8-second victory and the Eads Johnson Jr. Cup for the first time since its inception in 2004.
It was a very rough day on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, NJ. The Mids opened the schedule by winning the 3rd Varsity, 1st Freshmen and 2nd Varsity boats respectively, until Yale turned the table and took control of the Varsity race from the very first stroke.
Navy would go on to win the 2nd Freshmen race, however, during the last race of the day, the 4th Varsity four, the skies opened up and the winds began to howl. Eventually the race had to be stopped since the crews were in danger of sinking. Navy's 4th Varsity four was in a commanding lead at the time. Graciously, Yale gave up their shirts even though the race had not been completed.
