Recruiting Information

As the undergraduate college of the Naval service, the Naval Academy prepares young men and women to become professional officers in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Naval Academy students are midshipmen on active duty in the U.S. Navy. They attend the academy for four years, graduating with bachelor of science degrees and reserve commissions as ensigns in the Navy or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps. Naval Academy graduates serve at least five years as Navy or Marine Corps officers.

The application process begins early in a prospect's senior year in high school, so unlike all other institutions, the NCAA has allowed all military academies to start the recruiting process in the student's junior year in high school. If you are a Junior or Senior in high school and are interested in rowing for the US Naval Academy, please fill out the Recruiting Form. If you have finished your Junior year in High School and would like to apply to the Naval Academy you must fill out the Pre-Candidate Questionnaire as soon as possible.

Many of our rowing prospects will attend the USNA Summer Seminar Program after their junior year in high school to give them a better understanding of the Naval Academy. This one-week seminar will take the prospects through every aspect of a Midshipmen's life and becoming a Navy or Marine Corps. Officer.  For more information on the Summer Seminar and its dates, please click on the link above, or e-mail the crew coaching staff.

The Naval Academy application process will begin during the summer before the candidate's senior year in high school. To have the best chances of acceptance, candidates are suggested to start early due to the long application process.

Situated on the banks of the Severn River, the Naval Academy has about 4,000 men and women who represent every state in the U.S. and several foreign countries. The 600-member faculty has helped the Naval Academy attain a #1 ranking in Teacher Availability, from the Princeton Review’s National Study. In addition to a core curriculum of academic and professional courses, majors are offered in 18 subject areas: seven in engineering; seven in science, mathematics and computer science; and four in the humanities and social science.

I hope that you build on your interest in the Academy and the Navy Lightweight Crew Team. Becoming a Midshipman is a rare opportunity that only a few can achieve. It is a big challenge, but for those few it is by far the most rewarding experience of their lives. On the Lightweight Crew we pride ourselves in developing the skills to succeed on the water, in the classroom and anywhere else a challenge presents itself. We know that the Naval Academy is one of the best beginnings for any career. Our Navy Lightweight Alumni are in every career imaginable: lawyers, doctors, MBAs, engineers, IT managers, etc. Our graduates range from successful businessmen to U.S. Politicians, to Flag Rank Military Officers, and even Astronauts.
