Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run is a non-profit prevention program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running. Their curricula address all aspects of girl's development—their physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual well-being. (www.girlsontherun.org) Currently, a group of female midshipmen volunteer their afternoons bi-weekly at St. Mary's Catholic School in Annapolis, MD, acting as running partners and classroom helpers. The 12 week program culminates in a 5k race at the end of the semester in which the female midshipmen run alongside the students and encourage them in their endeavors.
