General Emergency Procedures - Plebe Summer Emergencies

Emergency / Crisis Intervention Services

Please let us determine what constitutes an emergency.  Call us or bring your midshipman to the center if you have any questions as to the emergent nature of the crisis.  We will evaluate and determine the best coarse of intervention, emergency or otherwise.

Normal Working Hour Procedures

All midshipmen needing emergency Mental Health Evaluations will be referred to MDC for initial screening during normal working hours unless there is an imminent risk of harm to the midshipman, or if a MDC staff provider cannot be reached.  The MDC provider will triage the client to determine what level of services are needed.  When a bona fide emergency referral is made, there is no need of a signed Release of Information, Privacy Act, or Confidentiality Statement due to the urgency of the referral and the risks involved in undue delay.

Direct Referrals to Brigade Medical / NMCL

Under certain circumstances, midshipmen should be referred directly to Brigade Medical without being screened at MDC.  In these cases, the emergency response system needs to be activated and the midshipman either transported or escorted directly to Brigade Medical in 8th Wing.  The Duty Healthcare Provider (DHP) will then contact the Mental Health Watch Officer in accordance with NMCL directives and the MDC will be notified after the fact.  These circumstances include the following:

Outside of normal working hours
When a MDC provider cannot be contacted
If there is an imminent risk of harm to the midshipman
If there is a suspected or known suicidal or other self-injurious behavior
