General Emergency Procedures - Plebe Summer Emergencies

Emergency Crisis Procedures
For Detailers


If you are concerned that your Plebe may be in crisis or contemplating suicide:

Talk with the individual
Practice good listening skills
Be direct and reassure your Plebe that everything is going to be ok
Discuss with your chain-of-command
Consult with MDC if needed

If a Plebe reveals to you that he or she is in crisis, but is not having any thoughts of suicide?

Encourage your plebe, and discuss the available options for receiving professional assistance
Discuss with your chain-of-command.
Consult with MDC.
Midshipman Development Center (3-4897, clinic hours until 1600)
Chaplains Center (3-1100, manned until 2000)

If a Plebe reveals that they are contemplating suicide, or you continue to feel uneasy/concerned about them after talking with them:

Take all statements about suicide seriously!
Immediately call MDC (3-4897) during working hours or Brigade Medical (3-1758) after working hours or if MDC does not answer.
Do not leave the Plebe alone and never keep it secret.
Inform your chain-of-command.

If you have reason to believe that a Plebe has taken action to harm self (e.g., took pills, cut self, standing on window ledge, etc.):

Immediately call the emergency ambulance (3333).
Have someone stay with the Plebe at all times and attempt to keep them calm.
Inform your chain-of-command.
