Suicide Basics - Just the Facts
 

1.  Suicide is Preventable.
2.  Over 30,000 people in the U.S. kill themselves each year.
3.  Suicide is the 8th leading cause of death in the U.S.
4.  Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death among young people ages 15-24.
5.  Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among college students.
6.  A person kills themselves every 18 minutes in the U.S.
7.  It is estimated that a suicide attempt is made every single minute in the U.S.
8.  Four times as many men kill themselves as women, but three to four times as many women attempt suicide as compared to men.
9.  Firearms are the must often used method of suicide by nearly all groups.
10.  Everyday about 80 Americans take their own life and nearly 1,500 try.
