Suicide

MDC and USNA Resources

The Midshipman Development Center is staffed with 3 full-time licensed clinical psychologists to respond to suicide emergencies and to work with midshipmen who are experiencing suicidal thoughts or are at risk of becoming suicidal.  For non-emergencies, check out the services section to see hours and how to access services.

If a midshipman reveals that they are contemplating suicide, or you continue to feel uneasy or concerned about them after talking with them:

Immediately call MDC (3-4897) during working hours or Brigade Medical (3-1758) after working hours or if MDC does not answer.
Do not leave the midshipman alone and never keep it secret.
Inform your chain-of-command.

If you have reason to believe that a midshipman has taken action to harm him or herself (e.g., took pills, cut self, standing on window ledge, etc.):

Immediately call the emergency ambulance (3333).
Have someone remain with the midshipman at all times and attempt to keep them calm.
Inform your chain-of-command.
