DoD Regulation 7000.14R, Volume 13; paragraph C050605.C.3, requires that a social security number be recorded on each check or that the social security number be maintained on file with MWR. The Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department at Naval Support Activity Annapolis is implementing a new policy for accepting personal checks. This policy change is necessary to safeguard ID privacy and is in compliance with a directive from Navy Personnel Command, which states that social security numbers will not be recorded on customer’s personal checks. The implementation of this change addresses customer concerns regarding the potential risk of identity theft.
Started back in October 2002, customers wishing to pay for MWR services with a personal check must fill out a check cashing card application in exchange for an MWR Check Cashing Card.Information on the application will be maintained in a secure MWR file to be used only when necessary to locate or identify customers in the case of a returned / dishonored check. The customer will present the check cashing card each time payment is made by check at MWR facilities. This new policy pertains to all MWR customers, except at the Child Development Center or Youth Center where social security numbers are maintained on file when a child is enrolled or registered.
Customers not wanting to complete the check cashing card application will have the option to pay in cash or by credit card.  Check cashing cards will be honored at all MWR facilities at Naval Support Activity Annapolis.
Note:Returned check fee is $28.
