Description of Duties:  Responsible as a swimming pool lifeguard to perform rescue work, promptly renders CPR or emergency first aid, and calls for medical assistance as necessary.

Supervises swimmers for safety and crowd control. Enforces safety and pool regulations. Promptly reports safety hazards to supervisor. Completes incident reports and assists in

maintaining routine documents and reports. Responsible for the cleanliness of the buildings and grounds at the pool areas. Responsible for vacuuming, skimming, and routine pool

maintenance. May operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards. May apply disinfectant to showers, floors and decks. May

check I.D. cards for authorized patrons and collect usage fees, if applicable. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Six months experience as a pool lifeguard preferred. Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification as a lifeguard as well as basic first aid and CPR

certification. In addition, skill in the use and maintenance of pool equipment is desired. Dexterity to handle a person in the water who may panic or be unconscious. Understanding of and ability to enforce

rigid safety regulations to ensure maximum protection of swimmers. Ability to use equipment to take pool readings.

National and state background checks are required for positions that involve working with youth programs.

LEAD  LIFEGUARD (Swimming Pools, NSA Annapolis)

Description of Duties:  During the absence of the Aquatic Center Manager, the incumbent will assume day to day managerial responsibility and authority over the facility including supervisory, risk

assessment, security, safety, operational and customer relations. Incumbent serves as the leader of the lifeguard crew during specific work shifts. As such, the incumbent will monitor lifeguard rotation

schedules, issue directives and monitor work performance. May recommend personnel actions to the manager.Closely observes and monitors the actions and conduct of customers in and around the

pool. Enforces established rules and regulations in order to prevent potential incidents. Provides information to customers regarding safety regulations and procedures. Performs rescue procedures when

necessary. Administers emergency first aid and/or CPR as required until such time as qualified medical personnel assume such responsibilities. Provides complete written reports pertaining to all incidents

that occur while on duty.

 

Assists in keeping the facility clean and properly maintained. Empties trash receptacles, cleans bathrooms, toilets, sinks and decks. Vacuums pool and removes trash and debris from around the facility as

necessary. Moves lounge furniture and other equipment and appliances.Tests chemical conditions of the pool water and enters data into appropriate logs. May be required to contact water management

personnel when conditions of water warrant such action. May instruct swim lessons if properly certified and so directed by the supervisor. Treats customers as guests and politely assists them whenever

possible. Performs other related duties as directed by the supervisor.

 

Minimum Qualifications:   Current Red Cross (or equivalent) Life Guarding, CPR and First Aid certification is required. Applicants be must at least 18 years of age and capable of

exercising control over a group of people. Incumbent must maintain a level of physical conditioning equal to swimming 200 meters in less than five minutes

Description of Duties:  Responsible for instructing and teaching various swimming skills, styles and basic diving to various age groups. Ensures all water safety rules are observed by swimmers, utilizing

a good knowledge of all aspects of water safety. Observes swimmers and ensures all participants are accounted for at all times. Prepares materials for presentation and explaining. May lead the work of

other lifeguards. May act as a pool lifeguard performing rescue work. When necessary, renders emergency first aid until qualified medical assistance arrives. Completes appropriate accident reports and

other required reports. Checks chemical balance of pool water and applies disinfectant to showers, floors and decks, as required. Performs necessary maintenance work required for sanitation,

cleanliness and neatness of the pool areas. May collect usage fees and check ID cards, as required. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:   Must possess Water Safety Instructor (WSI), CPR and basic first aid certificates. Must have one to two years of related experience. Dexterity to handle a person in the

Description of Duties:    Collects and issues money bags, cash funds, and sub-custody receipts from Sales associates/Cashiers; maintains log record of movement of money bags and cash funds issued.

Prepares bank deposits of cash receipts and makes change funds for cash registers.Cashes payroll checks, personal checks, government checks, travelers checks, and money orders for authorized

patrons, assuring that proper identification is provided. Checks names against “bad check” list and/or social security number before processing the payment of personal checks. Receives, counts and

verifies monies received with daily cash reports for accuracy. Prepares coversheet by register, amount and register number with Daily Cash Report, as required. Operates package machines in connection

with the counting and wrapping of coins and currency for change machines. Maintains appropriate logs as necessary.  Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:   Must have knowledge of basic cash handling procedures, be familiar with currency and negotiability requirements, and be able to operate a cash register.

Knowledge of business mathematics and routine office procedures required. Six months of experience is preferred.

Description of Duties:    Plans, develops and maintains a military aquatics and recreational program for a large community of active duty military, dependents, retirees, and authorized civilians in an area

where climate and other conditions favor a strong aquatics program. Plans, coordinates and schedules recurring activities, special events and joint community undertakings to maximize use of facilities and

resources consistent with the military mission. Evaluates effectiveness of ongoing aquatics activities. Adapts and varies programs as necessary. Enforces rigid safety regulations to ensure maximum

protection of swimmers. Plans swimming programs, developing basic categories such as swim instructions, swim team competition, springboard diving, water exercise classes, etc., and may involve

SCUBA instruction. Devises, improvises and adapts various activities to fit the conditions of water environment and to conform to limitations in funds, facilities, equipment and staff support. May assist

supervisor in developing annual budget, procurement of equipment, formulating long range plans, safety programs, and public relations undertakings. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:   Three years of experience that demonstrates knowledge of: water safety on an instructor level, CPR (preferably on an instructor level); basic and advanced

first aid; ability to independently develop and monitor a comprehensive aquatics program for a large community. Ability to use equipment to take pool and environmental readings.

Must possess WSI, CPR and basic first aid certificates.

SALARY:  $11.01 per hour

Description of Duties and Responsibilities:   Provides oversight of activities and necessary services to authorized patrons, including general information on the use of equipment. Provides information concerning facilities and operation. Ensures adherence to regulations and safety procedures. Monitors and checks the security of premises. May assist in maintaining routine reports and/or clerical, custodial and/or general maintenance duties as needed. May operate a cash register, receive payments and make change. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:  Must be able to learn MWR policies, rules and regulations involving the work area, and have the ability to communicate orally and in writing. Must have knowledge of basic mathematics. Six months experience in the assigned recreational activity is desired.

 

Must be able to access base computer system.  Some positions have special requirements.  In these cases selection is tentative pending satisfactory completion of these requirements.   Applicants may be required to provide proof of education, etc.

Description of Duties: Performs one or more of the following duties: scrubs, strips, waxes and polishes floors using heavy (industrial-type) powered scrubbers and buffers. Vacuums rugs

using heavy (industrial-type) vacuum cleaner. Adjusts, cleans and oils these machines and changes brushes, rollers, buffers and other attachments on them. Washes and replaces

venetian blinds, changes light bulbs and washes ceiling fixtures and room partitions, using ladders and scaffolds. Moves heavy furniture, supplies and equipment. In living quarters,

makes beds, changes linens and collects soiled linen. Keeps rest rooms in clean, orderly and in sanitary condition. Cleans disinfects and deodorizes lavatories, urinals and toilet bowls.

Cleans mirrors, sinks and water fountains. Dusts ledges and woodwork. Replaces deodorizers, toilet tissue and hand towels and soap. Maintains a stock of cleaning material and\

 equipment and notifies supervisor when more is needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications: 

Knowledge and skill sufficient to read signs, follow simple oral and written instructions. Ability to work safely while moving lightweight objects. Ability to use powered equipment and perform minor maintenance of the equipment. Ability to learn Material Safety Data Sheets. Must be able to walk or stand for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to bend, stoop, reach and lift.

Must be able to handle items weighing over 50 lbs. Must be able to obtain a Health Card. Incumbent must be able to obtain access to base computer system if applicable.

PROGRAM ASSISTANT (Child Development Center, NSA Annapolis)

SERIES / PAY BAND: CY- 1702 – GSE 2/3/4

Flex Position

SALARY: $11.91 - $18.99 per hour

 

Description of Duties:  The purpose of the CY Program Assistant is to provide appropriate developmental care and instruction for children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to Pre-Kindergarten.
 

ENTRY LEVEL-GSE 2 –
Assists in implementing and leading planned activities for program participants.  Uses prepared curriculum and program materials.  Incorporates special instructions provided by parents such as special dietary needs, physical needs or other information that may affect the child or youth’s experience in the program.  Cares for special needs children and youth, as directed by the supervisor. Promotes and models safety, fitness, health and nutrition practices.  Helps arrange for and/or serve appropriate snacks and meals.

Helps prepare, arrange and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily schedules. Helps establish a program environment that promotes positive interactions with other children, youth and adults.  Interacts with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques as provided by supervisors.  Provides care and supervision, oversight and accountability for program participants in compliance with the Department of Defense (DoD), NAF Component and local installation policies, guidance and standards.  Maintains control of and accounts for the whereabouts and safety of children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to pre-Kindergarten years.  Supervises children and youth during daily schedule of indoor and outdoor activities and on field trips, outings and special events.  Interacts professionally with employees, parents and local installation command personnel. Completes all training requirements, including orientation, monthly, annual and the approved Department of the Navy (DON) Standardized Module Training. Performs other related duties as assigned.

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL-GSE-3-
All of the above duties of GSE2 plus "participates in conferences with parents and employees."  

FULL PERFORMANCE LEVEL – GSE -4 –
Develops schedules and activity plans.  This may include reviewing and providing input into schedules and activity plans developed by CY Program Assistants, GS 1702-02 and GS 1702-03.  Ensures that program plans and activities incorporate the observed needs of the individual children and youth.  Implements activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs of children and youth.  Incorporates special instructions provided by parents such as special dietary needs, physical needs, or other information that may affect the child or youth’s experience in the program.  Prepares and implements program options for children and youth with special requirements.  Cares for special needs children and youth as directed by the supervisor.  Demonstrates, instructs, leads and facilitates planned and spontaneous program activities.  Role models developmentally appropriate practice and classroom or activity area management techniques.  Promotes and models safety, fitness, health and nutrition practices.  Helps prepare, arrange and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials. Inventories equipment on a recurring basis and recommends replenishing damaged, missing and depleted supplies. Establishes a program environment that sustains participant interest and promotes positive interactions with other children, youth and adults.  Interacts with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques.   Provides care and supervision, oversight and accountability for program participants in compliance with the Department of Defense (DoD), NAF Component and local installation policies, guidance and standards.

QUALIFICATIONS –

 

ENTRY LEVEL –GSE -2 –

Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience working with children and/or youth preferred.  Must be able to speak, read and write English.  Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.  Ability to complete all DoN training requirements within the specified time frames, including orientation, initial Standardized Module Training and ongoing training requirements.  Must be able to work cooperatively as a member of a team and to promote and foster effective working relationships with children/ youth and coworkers.  Ability to obtain a food handler’s card.  Ability to obtain a drivers license or Commercial Drivers License if necessary, to transport children.  Ability to favorably pass a pre-employment physical, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease.  Ability to satisfactorily complete background checks, IAW PS 101-647 to include a National Agency Check with Written Inquires (NACI). Ability to gain access to base computer system if necessary.
 

INTERMEDIATE LEVE – GSE 3 –

Must meet entry level qualifications of GSE -2 position AND have six months experience working with children or youth in a child or youth setting AND have completion of child abuse modules and modules 1-3 of the DoN Standardized Module Training.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE LEVEL – GSE 4 -

Must meet entry level qualifications of GSE -2 position AND have 12 months of experience working with child or youth in a child or youth setting AND completion of DoN Standardized Navy Module Training, OR you must meet entry level qualifications of GSE -2 position AND have a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or equivalent School-Age or Youth Development equivalent credential OR a 2-year degree or higher in a related field.
