2009 White House Ornament The 2009 White House Ornament is available at the MWR ITT Outlet. Payment must be made either by phone at 410-293-9200 or by visiting the MWR Recreational Services Bldg. #89, Monday - Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The ornament commemorates the 24th presidency of the United States. It is the second of two produced in Grover Cleveland’s honor by the White House Historical Association. He is the only president to have been elected to two non-consecutive terms (22nd president from 1885 to 1889 and 24th from 1893 to 1897) This second ornament illustrates the special place of the Christmas tree in the holiday celebrations of President Cleveland’s young family. The central hologram depicts the south façade of the White House after an evening snowfall. The warm glow of the first Christmas tree to be illuminated by electric lights is seen through the tall windows of the second floor Oval Room beyond the center of the columned portico. This softly colored view is based on a modern watercolor rendition by Margaret Huddy, a Washington, D.C.-based painter. The reverse side of the ornament recreates a scene from the tree-trimming parties of President and Mrs. Cleveland, which were held annually for their children and those of cabinet members. The words of a period newspaper report help to describe the president’s delight in preparing Christmas day for his young family. A finely crafted gold plated wreath of snowflakes, painted ice blue and white, frames the oval ornament. The 2009 White House Christmas Ornament can be viewed at www.whitehousehistory.org |

New School Liaison Officer
Position Broadens the Services of the Navy’s Child-Youth Program
The Department of the Navy recognizes the stress that frequent assignment moves
and multiple deployments put on military families. To ease the educational
transition of students caused by frequent school changes, Child and Youth
Program has implemented the School Liaison Officer (SLO) program. The School
Liaison Officer’s primary function is to provide transition support to DoD-eligible
families with school-age children. The SLO is the focal point of contact between
the installation commander, parents and the community at large and the local
school administration. The School Liaison Officer will provide the following
services:
• School Transition Services
• Deployment Support
• Liaison Communications
• Partnerships in Education
• Home School Link Support
• Post-Secondary Preparation
The School Liaison Officer position helps to level the playing field for military / DoD children by ensuring the student is able to attain the highest achievement at any assigned location. Parents and community members with questions on school-age military / DoD child education may contact Carol Mohsberg, School Liaison Officer, NSA Annapolis at mohsberg@usna.edu or 410-293-2641.

A reading session lasts about 10 to 15 minutes and is arranged to meet the volunteer’s and children’s schedules. The center is also looking for guest speakers who would be willing to visit the center and “show and tell” the children what they do everyday. CDH Rates Subsidized

For an application, call Michelle Jackson, CDH Monitor at 410-293-9395.
Parents who are on the waiting list or who wish to be placed on the list for childcare in the Child Development Program at the Annapolis Complex can call the Central Enrollment and Waiting List (CEWL) at 1-877-269-9322 or 1-202-433-3059 or register online at https://qol.persnet.navy.mil/CYPWeb/Web/RFC/RequestForCare.aspx **Parents: Please Remember that you need to call every 90 days and update the information so your name will be retained on the waiting list.
CDH program offers self-employment
as a child development provider to dependents of active and retired military,
reservists and Department of Defense civilian employees living on and off
base. Providers attend 20 hours of orientation classes including
CPR and First Aid. National background checks are performed
on all CDH providers. Their homes are inspected by the Naval Academy
fire department, safety office and preventive medicine department. CDH
program offers providers the opportunity to work in their home and watch
their own children grow and develop while at the same time caring for children
and earning an additional income. CDH homes provide a warm, family
setting in which children can participate developmentally appropriate learning
activities and home-life experiences. The children are able to build a
trusting relationship with a provider who will foster their curiosity and
creativity, provide guidance and give them the hugs they need.

you need child care or would like to become a provider, call 410-293-9395.

The MWR Youth Center is a Member Affiliate Organization of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and offers teens the opportunity to be members of Torch Clubs. Sponsored by Staples Foundation for Learning, Inc. and Staples, Inc., Torch Clubs help young people make a successful transition into late adolescence by fostering positive self-esteem and personal growth, building listening and speaking skills and reinforcing academic achievement. Torch Clubs also play a vital role in day-to-day running of a club, using critical peer-to-peer interaction to build positive character traits and interpersonal skills among pre-teens. Torch Club members become role models and ambassadors for promoting character, tolerance, diversity and inclusion, and each year, hundreds of Torch Club youth conduct service projects in their Clubs and communities proving they are on their way to becoming responsible, caring citizens and leaders.
