Chaucer In Rome
Fall 2003 Production
Chaucer in Rome is set in 2000 and tells the story of three friends
studying art at the American Academy in Rome. One of the three has
developed cancer from his painting technique and needs to find a
new art medium. His friends talk him into videotaping confessions
of pilgrims who've come to Rome for the Holy Year. The play asks
difficult questions about what art is, what is the responsibility
of the artist, and child-parent relationships. It is about betrayal,
destruction, and recovery after devastation. The production is very
high tech, with a great deal of multi-media...very modern and cutting
edge.
