- Policy Issues

- If you would like to restrict access to
directories on webster, please review the instructions
on .htaccess files.

- Search Engine
The Academy is now using InfoSeek as the search engine.
- InfoSeek is currently cataloging the following
URLs :
http://eng.usna.navy.mil/
http://nmclanna.med.navy.mil/
http://physics.nadn.navy.mil/
http://physics.nadn.navy.mil/ECAs/nesa/nesa.htm
http://prodevweb.prodev.usna.edu/
http://web.wse.nadn.navy.mil/
http://www.dahlgrenhallhrm.com/
http://www.naps.edu/
http://www.navysports.com/
http://www.scs.usna.navy.mil/
http://www.usna.com/
http://www.usna.edu/
http://www.usna.org/
Are there any other URLs that you would like
to see cataloged ?
- One of the benefits of this search software
is that you can now put a search box on your page that would search
only your site. The following piece of html code will search only
the Library's site. Just change the URL statement for your site.
<FORM NAME="seek1" METHOD="GET"ACTION="http://websearch.usna.edu:8765/query.html">

- The Code in Action :
- Software Downloads
The Information Resource Center maintains a software download section
located at www.usna.edu/IRC/software.html.
If there is software requirement for your site, such as the Adobe Reader,
please make references to the IRC Software download section rather than
have pointers to other locations within the Academy. To get software
located there, please call ext 33500.
- Advanced Tool Selection Update
We have anounced the advanced development tool to be FrontPage2000
and the graphics package as PaintShop Pro. More information will be
available soon.
- Log Analysis Tool & Reports
USNA is currently using Webtrend's Log Analyzer to create usage reports.
Reports can be found at
www.usna.edu/Masters/Reports/reports.htm.
- Training
With new tools and packages, training is necessary. Jeff Rohrlick is
putting together training for WebCT and FrontPage2000. In addition,
I would like to work with HRD to establish additional WWW training.
- New Development Plan Initiative
IT Services has announced an new initiative to improve the Academy's
WWW resources. If you have ideas and requirements, please let me know.
- Future Discussion
For future discussion, start thinking about whether you would like to
see a uniform design for the entire USNA WWW Project. Currently, we
are allowing each function at USNA to have their own design. The Guidelines
call for consistency within each function.
- Questions & Answers
The following is a list of issues that were brought up for discussion

- A Watchbill program for all of the companies
- Provide a copy of FormMail that allows for anonymous
submissions
- Remedy Site License for the Library
- LinkBot runs for non-webster sites

so a person can run a report for just their department
- I will post training information as it becomes
available
- The current WWW NT box in Ward Hall needs to
be upgraded
