POLICY STATEMENT
FALL 1996
For Professor Mark D. Meyerson
- The Core Course Compendium" (for 'core' courses) and "The
Mathematics Major" handbook summarize the material to be covered
in mathematics courses.
- I recommend that you work together on homework. However, to
be sure that you understand the problems you should write up the
solutions in your own words. Keep a notebook of completed
homework assignments. Advance notice will be given of
homework to be collected. Quiz and test questions will often be
similar to homework problems!!
- Approximate grading: Points will be added together and
divided by the total number possible to get a score. Grading scale:
90-100 A, 80-89 B, 70-79 C, 60-69 D, 0-59 F.
Tests will have 100 points, quizzes typically 10 and homework typically 4.
The quiz and homework average will be scaled to count as an hour
test by the end of the semester.
The final exam will count one-third of the course grade.
- I'm here most days 0830 to 1700, except for classes
4th, 5th, and 6th periods. Feel free to stop by my office
or to contact me for an appointment any time.
- In most instances, if you miss a class you are responsible for
the material covered that day. In particular, you should be prepared
to take a quiz on your return if a quiz has been announced
and you should hand in assigned homework.
- If you are having difficulties with the course, please see
me. If I am unavailable (for example, teaching another section
at the time), the Math Lab behind Chauvenet 216 is staffed by mathematics
instructors to give help.
