The VAR-LINK screen shows all
the variables you've saved, including ones like
y1,
created on the Y= screen, that you may have
thought were temporary.
For each variable, the screen
also shows the variable type and the size
in bytes.
The symbols to the left indicate
whether the variables are locked (can't be deleted or changed until
they're unlocked), archived (like locked, but stored in a separate
memory area, freeing up calculator memory for computations), or selected
(in preparation for doing something to all the selected variables.)
Highlighting a variable and pushing ENTER copies it to the command line of the HOME screen.
Highlighting the name of a
folder and pushing the left cursor arrow will "collapse" the folder (hide
the variables in that folder.)
Highlighting the name of a
folder and pushing the right cursor arrow will "expand" the folder (reveal
the variables in that folder.)
The Manage menu (F1)lists all the things you can do with variables on the VAR-LINK screen.
Delete and Rename do just what you think they do.
Copy and Move are only of interest if you have folders other than the Main folder. (And there's not really much reason to.)
Create Folder does just what it says.
Lock, Unlock, Archive, and Unarchive are described above.
Clear ID List involves
the identification codes the calculator needs to download flash applications
and system upgrades from the TI website.
The View menu (F2)
determines what the VAR-LINK screen shows you: variables
(the default), system variables, or Flash
Applications (if you've downloaded any from the TI
website.) It also allows you to display only variables in particular
folders (if you have more than one) or of particular types.
The Link menu (F3) is where you send or receive data from other calculators or from a computer.
F4 inserts or removes
the checkmarks that indicate a particular variable is selected.
The All menu (F5)
lets you check or uncheck all the variables.
The Contents key (F6)
will show you what's stored in the highlighted variable.
The FlashApp menu (F7) is only displayed if you've loaded a Flash Application (from the TI website or, if it's a free application, from another calculator.) If you do have an application in flash memory, the FlashApp menu displays all the variables that come with the application.
