Course Description

The objective of this course is to provide a fundamental understanding of reciprocating internal combustion engine design and operation. Lectures develop the theory of engine operation by connection to modern trends in engine technology as well as foundational concepts from earlier courses in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and chemistry. Lab work emphasizes both mechanical dissection and engine testing with subsequent interpretation of data.
